Filling Space
I have two weeks to plan a weekend holiday… I'm sitting in my tiny London flat watching the rain fall and imagining myself somewhere wearing linen and holding the perfect piece of stemware containing the crispest orange wine. So I turn to my trusty and source that helps me in deciding where to go… my saved TikTok folder (and Conde Nast Traveller, but yes, TikTok). I'm seeking spaces. Spaces that feel foreign to me. Spaces with texture. Spaces to seduce even someone without a single care for design.
The more I travel, the more I crave something new each time. It is like an addiction and it may never be enough, but one thing that never fails to amaze me is the reflection of culture through interior (and exterior) design in the spaces that fill these beautiful cities. With that, I give you a glimpse into some of the most inspiring spaces I have spent some portion of my life in.
El Fenn, Marrakech… the stillness and the blend of the warmth of the sun with the hue of structure felt so intentional. Above a bustling city, there was a tranquil oasis.
From Delphine in Copenhagen. A Mediterranean restaurant that felt like a warm Grecian sunset on one of the coldest days of my life. Oh and this is just the bathroom…
The Red Room, London. From the heavy red velvet curtain entrance to the pink quartz bar top, this spot was more about the feeling than anything else (although the cocktails were insane). I had not and have not yet found a vibe like this anywhere else.
Huis Bartolotti, Amsterdam. I stumbled upon this townhouse on accident and this copper sink really stuck with me. This kitchen was originally only used by staff for the family, but the jade tones and mixed textures seemed like something from AD rather than rundown room for mass cooking.
Copenhagen, Denmark. Have you ever seen something more Danish…? My first thought here was citrus, then my eyes are drawn upward toward the third story skylights. The bikes out front really make it. I wonder what kind of people live in a place as special as this.
The Edition, Madrid. I found this place on TikTok and had to see it for myself. It looked like an organic modernist's heaven. Come for the cocktails, stay for the wavy ceiling.
The Edition, Madrid. Like- comeon.
Musée Rodin, Paris. “Grand” is good start but understated opulence is maybe a little more accurate. I visited the museum for the art but the building itself was like being inside a Rodin. I felt I was invited to become one with the art.
